Internet services have become increasingly available in Egypt since 1996. Depending on your needs you may want to go with simple dial-up service, have a DSL line installed or go with wireless internet if you are on the move a lot.
Dial-up Service is economical if you just want to use the internet for email. It connects at 56 kb so it will be slow if you plan to upload or download information. Prices for dial up are as follows:

It is the same as the local calls. You will pay: 123 P.T. per the first hour, 120 P.T. per every other hour
Wireless Internet is available through both Vodafone and Mobinil. It requires an Internet Card (a 1400 LE initial investment) and allows you to access the internet anywhere you can use a cell phone, which is virtually all over Egypt. Per rate costs differ with each company and packages are available.

DLS is the most common way to access the internet in Egypt. Since the Internet first became available in Egypt, there are new Internet providers opening every month. Finding a quality service provider is easy now. But one must remember that Internet service is a very new commodity in this country and as such, they are experiencing some « growing pains » that can, for the user, sometimes be frustrating.
